膨胀的脸颊可能是由过多的颊脂体堆积而成。

医生切入口腔脂肪垫后，对脸颊外部施加压力，将颊脂肪垫推向口腔内部。这样可以抓住脂肪体。这样做不会把所有的颊肪去除，因为需要保留一些脂肪以获得平滑的脸颊。除去足够的口腔脂肪，止血和缝合后，可以塑造出更完美动人的脸庞。

通过该手术去除的颊脂可随后放入其他用途或丢弃。例如：鼻成形术则可使用去除的脂肪垫来遮盖鼻部硅胶植入物或增加鼻尖。其他美容用途包括使用它来填充下眼睑的中空撕裂槽畸形。这些新技术已经由我们的整形外科医生发表在的整形外科杂志《Plastic＆Reconstructive Surgery》。

颊脂肪切除是个简单的手术，可在30分钟至1小时内完成，恢复期也快。患者通常在第二天就能恢复上班。鼓励患者使用漱口水及注意口腔卫生，以将感染的风险降到最低。
